The 2020 Triple Crown Volleyball NIT begins Friday, Feb. 14 with a variety pack of clinics, camps, workshops and workouts held at the Kansas City Convention Center; the tournament itself will run Saturday, Sunday and Monday, with the 12's and 13's playing at the MAVS club facility in Olathe, KS.
Here's a quick look at some of the fundamental facts and figures behind this event, which draws the most impressive and impactful club programs from around the country. Event Vision: Bring together the strongest club volleyball programs to compete regardless of sanctioning bodies (USAV, AAU, JVA). A dominant USAV and JVA team might never play each other, so the TC NIT is a chance to see how superior teams stack up against each other. Tourney is formatted so the best can play the best early; teams can get back into championship bracket even with an early loss. These 90-minute sessions are broken down by position (setter, pin hitter, libero, etc), and athletes work shoulder-to-shoulder with college coaches in small groups to maximize value of instruction. Unique opportunity; where else could a Florida high school athlete interact with a college coach from Washington or Arizona State? Other Friday events: Unsigned Senior/Junior Workout: More than 200 players still looking for a college roster attend this fast-paced workout, with dozens of college coaches from all levels moving from court to court, charting the action in this powerful recruiting moment. Very common for athletes and coaches to connect right after the workout. Youth Skills Clinic: Fundamentals remain a priority at every level of the sport; Triple Crown has joined forces with noted youth coach Wes Lyon of Munciana for a 90-minute primer on the basics of the game.
