Jolene Nagel
Head Coach - Duke

Picture
Jolene Nagel became Duke University's fifth head volleyball coach in 1999, joining the Blue Devil staff after successful stints at Cornell and Georgetown.

Under her guidance, Duke has earned a reputation as one of the elite programs on the East Coast. Nagel has led the Blue Devils to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, including an ACC-record seven consecutive trips to the postseason event from 2005-11.

A perennial contender in the ACC, Duke has recorded 20 or more wins in 14 of Nagel's 19 campaigns and consistently finished among the top three in the conference. Nagel earned her 600th career victory September 9, 2017 as the Blue Devils downed TCU in straight sets. With the win, Nagel became the 22nd active NCAA Division I head coach to reach 600 career victories.

Erin Appleman
Head Coach - Yale

Picture
The 2018 Ivy League Volleyball Coach of the Year, Erin Appleman has taken the Yale Volleyball program to unprecedented heights and established herself as one of the most accomplished volleyball coaches in the country, let alone the Ivy League.

Over the past 17 years, Appleman has guided the Bulldogs to three straight Ivy League titles and 10 championships overall, including a record-setting five straight titles (2010-2014); seven NCAA Tournament appearances (2004, 2008, 2011-2014, 2018); four 20-plus win seasons (2005, 2008, 2009, 2013); and became the first coach in conference history to win an NCAA Tournament match -- a feat she has accomplished twice (2004 and 2008).

Trudy Vande Berg
Head Coach - George Washington

Picture
An excellent young coach with tremendous coaching credentials, Trudy Vande Berg was named to the Big Red coaching staff prior to the 2012 season and was elevated to the position of Wendy Schaenen '79 Head Coach of Volleyball at Cornell in March 2015.

In her five seasons at the helm, Vande Berg has shaped the Big Red into a team that perennially finishes in the top tier of the Ivy League, finishing third in the conference in each of the last three seasons (2017, 2018, 2019). The span of three-consecutive third-place Ivy League finishes marks the best seasons for the Big Red since the team won three conference titles followed by a second-place finish from 2003-06. Cornell has constantly improved in each of the last three years, culminating with its best season since 2006 in 2019. The Big Red finished the 2019 season with a 17-6 overall record, including an 8-4 mark in conference play. The team's 17 wins marked the most since 2006 when the team won 18 matches, and the Big Red went on an 11-match win streak over the middle portion of the season. The last time Cornell stacked that many wins was 2003.

Ben Somera
Head Coach - Wesleyan

Picture
Ben Somera enters his fifth season at the helm of the Wesleyan volleyball program in 2019. In 2018, Somera’s squad continued its historic climb to national prominence by winning the NCAA Tournament Regional Championship and advancing to the Elite Eight. Two athletes earned AVCA All-American Honors and four athletes were named AVCA All Region. Additionally, Nicole Hilton ’20 was named the Most Valuable Player of the Providence Regional at the NCAA Championships. Along the way, the Cardinals picked up their third Little Three title en route a 9-1 NESCAC record and ranked No. 14 in the final AVCA National Poll.

The 2017 squad made history by claiming the program’s first-ever NESCAC Championship. The Cardinals also claimed their second Little Three title and first since 1992. They advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and finished the year with a 22-6 overall record and an 8-2 NESCAC mark -- the team's 22 wins were the most since the 2000 season. Additionally, Nicole Hilton ’20 was named the NESCAC Player of the Year and an AVCA Second Team All-American.
